Stacking Hands & Adding Flavor: More Dallas Eats from The Pastor’s Common
We couldn’t agree more with Jared Cornutt’s Unofficial Official Food Guide to the 2025 Dallas Convention over at The Baptist Review. As a Texas-based network of pastors, we at The Pastor’s Common were nodding, smiling, and to be blunt, we got a little hungry as we scrolled through his list.
While Jared was serving here in Texas, we were able to grab some meals together. It was clear that Jared knows his way around a plate of barbecue, a bowl of queso, and a great cup of coffee. His guide is the perfect primer for those heading to Dallas for the SBC Convention next year. I would argue that whether you’re a first-time visitor or a frequent flyer to the DFW area, his list has something for everyone. Especially those of us who believe that breaking bread with one another is a necessity for meaningful conversations.
So, since we call Texas home, we thought we’d humbly stack hands with Jared’s list and offer a few local favorites of our own for those looking to explore a little deeper while you’re in town.
First up:
Oak’d Barbecue – A rising star in the Dallas BBQ scene, Oak’d delivers classic Texas barbecue with bold flavor and top-notch sides. It’s a great spot to meet up with friends after a long day of sessions.
Bad Chicken – The name may sound rebellious, but the food is pure comfort. Crispy, flavorful chicken sandwiches and creative sauces make this a solid casual stop. We should mention that they are garnering a cult-like following quickly.
HG Supply Co. – If you’re looking for clean eats with a great atmosphere, HG’s rooftop views and thoughtful menu won’t disappoint. It’s a great place to unwind and take in the Dallas skyline.
Starship Bagel (Downtown location) – Located right next to the iconic Dallas’ Giant Eyeball, this spot is perfect for a quick breakfast or midday pick-me-up. Bonus: the location makes for a fun tourist photo op. And here’s the deal, Starship was crowned best bagel and schmear in the nation in both 2023 and 2024, topping even the best in New York.
Now, if you’re looking to start your morning right, Dallas is saturated with excellent coffee shops. We recommend visiting Weekend Coffee, tucked inside The Joule Hotel, it’s just a short walk from Starship Bagel. For more adventures in caffeine, try Merit Coffee, a beautiful space with great vibes and consistent pour overs. Afterward, you treat yourself to a slice at Emporium Pies, a local favorite for seasonal desserts that feel like home.
Lastly, if you’re chasing the best burger in Dallas, head over to Good Friend Burger and order the Bourdain. It’s bold, messy, and unforgettable. Just like the man it’s named after.
So, to our fellow pastors, ministers, and convention-goers, please come hungry. Dallas is more than ready to welcome you with open arms and full plates. And thanks again to The Baptist Review and Jared for kicking off the conversation. We’re looking forward to sharing meals, stories, and gospel partnership with you all in Big D.
